Experience WUJI

Earlier this week, Experience Westchester was invited to indulge in a tasting of some of the best and healthiest Chinese Cuisine our area has to offer! WUJI (def: Beginning of Creativity) is an all new restaurant located in the center of Scarsdale — an incredible Westchester fine dining experience that lives up to its name in every way. Along with other Westchester County-based media elite, the Experience Westchester team were giddy in raving about the quality of our meal, the restaurant and its service in what was a very memorable dinner party.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant we were immediately struck by the attractive and welcoming decor. Pictures of the Buddha throughout the layout invited a sense of calm. You notice the designers artistic flare, highlighted by a Blue Willow China mural on the rear wall. The restaurant was truly gorgeous, yet amazingly distinctive.

I typically don’t pay much attention to the gear donned by an eateries’ staff, but I couldn’t help but notice how fashionable the team was at WUJI. Their sense of fashion didn’t distract from the smiles and warm service that was provided throughout the evening.

Now, to the food! It was explained to us that the idea behind WUJI was to create a menu with healthier options, without sacrificing taste. Note to team WUJI — Mission Accomplished! From the outset, starting with the arrival of Chinese Heritage Spare Ribs & Chicken and Peanut Spring rolls, I could tell that there was a certain lightness in the fare that is not typically associated with Chinese cuisine available in the US. Not only did it not take away from the taste — which was delicious — I ate a great share, but did not emerge sluggish. I thoroughly enjoyed the full meal, but a few of my favorites beyond what I already mentioned were the General Tso’s Fish and the Spicy Fried Rice. If you like classic Chinese food this is certainly a place you want head to soon.

The highlight of the night was getting an opportunity to dine with the WUJI owner Jody Pennette — who will soon be bringing his unique concept to Larchmont and Bronxville. Pennette had his guests full of both food and laughter as he shared stories of opening over 300 establishments during his career and the back story of his new book — Starting and Running a Restaurant. His stories and anecdotes when joined with the excellent food made for a most delectable, and memorable, evening!

Experiencing Westchester is proud to recommend WUJI — a delicious taste of China, right in Scarsdale!
